Hello, I am Grisel Torres-rodriguez

i am an artist / crafts person / energy+body worker / dancer / singer / lover / hater :p

a pisces born and raised in San José, CAlifornia by way of migrant parents from León, Guanajuato, México. they came to work in the produce farm fields of the Monterey bay following my maternal grandfather who was born in the field work circuit, jesús. he is a bracero by birth and at the time existed neither here nor there. his work was his ritual and the land from California to mexico was his alter. He put everything he had into building the bridge that connected his land to his heart and along the way fed so many people— I am still fed by him to this day. i celebrate him at 92 years old. Our collective history and lineage informs my here and now.

my light design journey began in high school, being trained as a lighting technician at 14 years old.

As a lighting designer, I have a strong will to create an atmospheric breeding ground for inward and outward inspiration. In my designs, I strive to evoke the freedom of feeling and the vision of a truth. My compositions consist of contrasting colors, playing with textural shapes, and lots of special effects in order to captivate the eye. My job is to add that extra layer of poetry, a nicely wrapped gift of visual and experiential magic. My artistic inspiration comes from breath, the sun, ritual ceremony, queerness, and visions of a decolonized & anti-racist future.

I use my tech experience and sharp instincts to anticipate the needs of any productions. Fun but firm, I aim to create a safe space for creative collaboration while maintaining an efficient use of time.
